More Progress in the Master Bedroom

Finally! I waited all week for my 'new' quilt. It finally came on Saturday! I put quotes on "new" because it is new for me but not new, new. I have looked and looked for a quality white quilt that I liked. Oh, yes, I found some but the prices are outrageous! I found this one on eBay - it is Pinecone Hill Victoria and sells for..... $430! Gasp! The lady I bought this from had it listed for $150. That was still too high for me. I mean, it's used after all. So, I emailed her and asked her if she would consider a 'Best Offer' option on her listing. She emailed back and said she would add it to the listing and $80 was her lowest price. Since her listing specifically said that it was in LIKE NEW condition, I agreed. That is still a lot for a used quilt in my opinion, but I really liked it and it was cheaper than any of the other options. (Ones I didn't like so well but were new.) So, here it is.

The shams came from TJMaxx and the ruffle pillow was a Groopdealz deal of the day a couple weeks ago. I have never had shams and pretty pillows on my bed and after I made it up like this, my almost 6 year old son told me it looked like a bed in a store. I think he meant it as a compliment. I would like to add another pillow (or 2) but for now this is what it looks like.

And to show how far I've come so far, here is a before and after:

I still have a lot of projects to complete before I can show you the 'reveal'. (Like the chair peaking around the corner of this picture.) For now, I'm very happy with my new look. My husband complimented me saying it looks like a designer bedroom. Weeeellll, now, that's going too far. :) But I'm glad he likes it as well as I do. I admit he was very dubious about a gray bedroom.

Here's another 'after' at a slightly different angle:
Um, yeah, no bathroom door.... yet.

So, there's my progress report for this week.

EDIT: Full Reveal here.

I'll be linking to these parties - come join me!

  1. Love the gray white color, we want to do our bedroom as a next year's proyect and I love the softess and serene look yours have, thanks for sharing. I'm at MM with new changes too. Hugs,

  2. I love that color. Looking really good. Thanks for sharing at the newbie party.

  3. It looks so good Rachel, can't wait to see the full reveal. Helen

  4. It's looking so much better! I like how you hung the drapes to give the appearance that the window is wider. Can't wait to see the final look

  5. It's like night and day already! LOVE the soothing gray walls and the white quilt is gorgeous!

  6. Very nice. The bed linens really change the room.

  7. What a beautiful job you have done with your bedroom - so bright and comfy looking. I found and am following you through Debbie's Newbie Party and hope to visit more often. Please drop by my blog and say hello. I would love that. Hugs, Chris

  8. Wow! No wonder your son was impressed! I am too! I especially like how you made the window look more balanced with the room. Hope you show us how you did it!

  9. I think it looks great, Rachel! Gray and white is so classic.

  10. The bedroom turned out beautiful! You might want to do a little research on what you call "a used quilt". That is not what it is and you may have really scored! The "quilt" is actually a Matelasse spread and the pattern is somewhat unique. A good antique dealer who knows linens, etc. would be able to give you more info. These usually sell for hundreds more, so consider yourself gifted and it just makes that bedroom with that lovely furniture.

  11. Wow! Your bedroom is beautiful! It's so restful - love the wall color! Do you remember the paint color? The new bedding is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

I'm hosting my monthly Before Blogging Throwback Thursdays party and would love it if you'd come and share something you made/did/bought sometime before blogging. Can't wait to see what you share at the party.

  12. Very pretty! Love your quilt!!

  13. So pretty! Thank you for linking up to Farmhouse Friday!

  14. The quilt is beautiful. I've had a similar one on my bed for years and it's still a favorite. There is just something wonderful about crisp white quilt that melts me inside - know what I mean?

By the way, I love the color on the walls in your bedroom. the room as a whole is looking wonderful and I have a little envy towards that light fixture. It's gorgeous.

  15. Your bedroom is looking wonderful. Love your quilt score. Happy mew follower from Farmhouse Friday.

  16. You've made such a huge difference to the room already. The quilt is beautiful.

  17. love what you have done. I have a new quilt and shams and valances for my bedroom and I have to change so much out that I am putting it off. You have inspired me though so come the weekend....

  18. That is some transformation!!! I love how romantic and timeless it looks.

  19. This is simply beautiful!

I am jealous.:) I am SO ready to be done with all the red and golds in my bedroom.

    Your bedroom transformation is incredible!

I am stuck with all the oak furniture and trim in my bedroom and so I never thought I could pull a look like this. Now I am thinking that I can, thanks to seeing what you have done.

I am a huge fan of the matelasse coverlets like yours, especially with the scalloped edge.

I have one on my bed (gold-blah) and one on DD's bed. I found mine on clearance at Elder Beerman. Those buggers are expensive for sure. I think you got a very good deal on yours.

Can't wait to see the rest of your bedroom re-do!

Will you share the name and brand of your paint color? I will re-read your older posts and see if you mentioned it.

  20. Okay, I found the paint brand and color name in your older post. :)

I just wanted to add that your single window above the bed looks like a double in the after pics.
You really "opened" it up with your curtain placement. What a great idea!

Thanks for taking the time to make my day with your comments!
