So, the end of the week has come... and there are no master bedroom pictures from me. {sad face}

I had all good intentions of being far enough to share some pictures with you, but alas, some bedding I ordered did not come. Since the bed is the MAIN furniture in the room, I can't show you pictures without my 'new' bedding. I did get the painting done (well, mostly), and the light and curtains are hung. (I hung those all by myself.) It's coming.... but oh, so slowly.

On a different note: it's rather unnerving to be closely inspecting the wiring in an electrical box and have a big, black, hairy spider jump out at you. EEEK! I screeched loud enough to be heard at the neighbors, I think! Ugh! Those nasty things are everywhere this time of year. I seriously am on constant vigil - well, almost constant. Obviously, I had let my guard down for a second. I so was not expecting one to be in an electrical outlet box!

Anyway, stay tuned. I will have some pictures for you next week. Not the big, final reveal, but I'm far enough you WILL see progress....

Treasures From the Habitat ReStore

Last week in one of my trips to town, Mom and I stopped at the Habitat ReStore to browse for anything I could use in my project. It was a profitable stop! I found these:

Barn door rollers for my sliding 'barn door' in the master bedroom! I have been looking for these on Craigslist and eBay but they're usually priced around $100 and up. I got these for $4 - $2 apiece. I was delighted! Some scrubbing, primer, and spray paint will do wonders for them. The wheels still roll freely. YIPPEE! Score!!

Another score I made was this light for $15.

The light that has been in my foyer since we moved here almost 5 years ago has been an awful eyesore but I wasn't willing to spend the money for a new light. I've been watching garage sales, thrift stores, etc. for one to replace it but haven't found one I liked until last week. This one fits the style/colors SO much better! Here is a 'before' picture so you can see what an improvement (imho) I made.

So there they are: my ReStore 'treasures'. What have you found lately?

Master Bedroom Progress and Sneak Peek

Last week was busy and fun. Fun to have my Mom around pushing me keeping me motivated toward the goal of my master bedroom makeover. I'll be sharing some 'before' and 'during' pictures in this post. The 'after' pictures will have to wait since we didn't get finished.

Here are some 'before' pictures: (ACK!)

This is the view as you walk in the door. This room receives very little natural light (especially with the curtains covering the only window) and it was impossible to get decent pictures. I committed the 'sin' of using flash. Hopefully the 'after' pictures will be better because I intend to leave the window uncovered. Things to note in this picture: Thomas Kinkaid border that I never liked. DARK paint at the top that I never liked. Hideous light with broken shade (from DH swatting a fly on it). Extra kitchen chair for seating.

Moving around the room counter-clockwise, this is the 'bathroom wall'. The 8 panel door will be replaced with a sliding barn door-type door. We will also put the header back on. It has been missing since we moved there and I'm not sure why we never put it back up. (To keep it real, I didn't remake the bed after my son's nap. His favorite stuffed monkey is still there, too.)

This wall is continuing around the room in the same direction. The door on the left of the picture is the door leading into the bedroom. And one final view:

The 'closet' wall. Halfway through our painting last week I decided my closet needed a makeover. So, I yanked everything out, painted the interior and installed a closet system. I didn't take a before shot but picture one bar that was too crowded with clothes. It hung too low so my dresses dragged on the floor. All our shoes were kept on the floor but with the dresses dragging, it was hard to get to them. There were 2 shelves above the clothes that were used for 'whatever'. I don't have the doors painted and re-installed but here is the 'after':

It's nothing astounding or beautiful, but it sure is a lot more organized and accessible. It took Mom and I one whole day to complete. :) Blame it on lack of carpentry skills.
(If you're wondering about my side of the closet and why all my dresses look the same, I am Mennonite. For more information on that, my friend, Gina, has a great post on Mennonites. I encourage you to check it out here. Also, DH has a TON of shirts that he never wears. I plan on sorting them and donating those.)

Here is a 'progress' shot:

The first thing we did was remove the border and wash the walls. Then we began priming everything - ceiling, walls, and trim. Then we painted the ceiling and walls in Valspar Gravity. One coat covered well. I was so happy! I still have the trim to paint and the doors to prime and paint. Here is a sneak peek of what it's looking like:

YES! I got crown molding!!! I had mentioned in my master inspiration post that I would love to have crown molding but didn't think it was in the budget. One day I was at Menards and decided to just look at what was available and prices. To my surprise, the MDF crown was very reasonable. Now I would never consider MDF trim for any place that receives 'wear' but at the ceiling where no one touches it, it's perfect. For $56 I got this crown molding and DH installed it for me. His uncle is a finish carpenter/cabinet maker and he had all the right tools and tips. DH did a GREAT job and I'm thrilled with the look. I still need to fill the nail holes and paint but I just had to share this picture with you!

Now that the look is changing, I'm inspired to keep at it until I'm finished. I hope to share more with you at the end of the week. Until then, I've got a lot of work to do.....
